Cooking Badge Info

Those Scouts that attended the December trip worked hard that weekend to earn their Cooking Badge. Do Requirement # 7, and show your menu plan and prices etc. on paper to Al Russo (Cooking Merit Badge Counselor).

See www.meritbadge.org for specifics. Requirement 7 must be done on your own to complete your Cooking badge.

Merit Badge Info

Step 1: Research the badge. Go to www.meritbadge.org

Step 2: Buy the badge book at a scout supplier or borrow from the troop library and start reading.

Step 3: See the Scoutmaster and ask for a BLUE CARD. A Blue Card will have the name of the counselor to contact.

Step 4: The SCOUT calls or sees the Counselor and informs them what badge they would like to work on. Follow the instructions the counselor gives. You may have to meet the counselor IN UNIFORM to get started.

Step 5: Begin working on the badge. Keep records of your work.. Use the worksheets on meritbadge.com if desired.

Step 6: When you have finished the requirements the SCOUT
contacts the badge counselor again. Meet with the Counselor and share your work. Bring the Blue card, the merit badge book and WEAR UNIFORM.

Step 7: The Counselor will sign the Blue Card for Scout upon completion of the badge. Scout shows the signed Blue Card to the Scoutmaster. KEEP one signed section for your records!

Step 8: Upon turning in the Blue Card to the Scoutmaster, the Scout is finished. They will receive the badge at the next Court of Honor. Sew the badge on sash. If the badge is lost bring the signed blue card to Scout Shop to purchase another.

Various councils offer merit Badge Fairs throughout the year.

Attending offers Scouts a chance to work on badges with other Scouts.

Research on line using key word: Merit Badge fair; check TRC web site.

Advancement Tips

1) Read Scout Handbook. See the Requirements for each level of scouting.

2) Attend as many trips/events as possible. Active scouts get experience to advance. Many tasks for first 3 Ranks are Camping requirements.

3) Attend meetings regularly. Ask questions of Patrol leader, Troop Guides and Scoutmasters. Bring handbook to meetings.

4) When you have finished a requirement, ask the Scoutmaster to sign your handbook. Show your work, demonstrate the skills.

5) Concentrate on Rank advancement the first year of Scouting. Badges can be done; attend service projects and lots of camping to get to 1st Class.

6) After First Class, serious badge work, troop jobs and giving service are priority.
